Back in April I bought a whole bunch of yummy Italian glass (quite a lot of it with no identification labels), but hadn’t really had a chance to get torching with it until last month!
Turns out it’s definitely a different creature to my beloved Bullseye glass (which I’ve been working with for over 15 years!) and diving into it with reckless abandon was delightfully freeing. Understanding glass chemistry helps to avoid horrible color disasters, but rejects can be recycled, so I thought damn the torpedos, full speed ahead! It was great fun!
I made the ‘winners’ into pendants and they’re live in my Etsy shop (and here are the ones which are hearts–Valentine’s Day is coming soon!) I decided to discount them, as they’re experiments, so grab a bargain if you’re in need of a present =)
And now, I have a question for y’all about how I go about listing pieces on Etsy. I’m asking because when I go to other Etsy shops and see hundreds of things listed I feel overwhelmed, especially if they’re not sorted into various files.
In the past, I’ve attempted to avoid this kind of overload by listing a collection of similar pieces in one listing so if a person is interested in, let’s say, Gleeples, they can click on one listing that shows photos of all the options available, like this:

Alternately, I’ve listed pieces individually (as below), but if I’ve been busy, that can mean my shop rapidly expands into the hundreds of pieces.

So, I’d like to ask for feedback about what YOU prefer. Comments below or private email (studio at jenefer.net) would be very welcome. Thank you =)
Hmmm, good question: Etsy charges per listing, but it’s only 20 cents for 3 months. So that’s not a dealbreaker.
When a piece sells from a multi-item listing, Etsy automatically renews the listing and charges me another 20 cents. So, if all the pendants were to sell within 3 months, the listing cost is identical whether they’re listed in one multi-piece listing or in individual listings. Of course, if they don’t all sell within 3 months I only have one renewal fee on a multi-item listing, instead of a bunch of renewal fees. So I suppose that adds up over the course of a year.
Etsy also charges a percentage of each sale, but that happens regardless of how the piece is listed.
In a search for new items, unless the main picture shows multiple options or the main listing is for custom, I would never think to click within for more options/listings. I would just keep skimming past.
Hi Rose,
Good point. I’ll be sure to show multiples in the main photo in future listings. Hmmmm….may need to go back and edit a few current listings too, as I tend to like zooming in on a piece for that main photo.
Thanks for that feedback! =)
And thanks also to all you voters. The additional options you’ve typed in are helpful as well. I appreciate the feedback! =)
Wow these earrings are beautiful.
