What an exciting day! I’ve been thinking through the best and easiest way to attach/detach Gleeples from the necklace cord and thought it’d be great if y’all could give your opinions! So we’ve combined a quick little survey with the announcement of who won the ONLINE drawing for the Essen Gleeple, plus an announcement about the Jack Vasel Memorial Fund.

OK, we’ve now done the drawing, and Rahdo’s finished sorting the video so without further ado, here it is:

Here is the link to the Jack Vassel Memorial Fund Auction Items. It’s a great cause and lots of wonderful things to bid on…and now two custom DRAGON markers AND an opportunity to specify a game for a Runthrough (with me playing along).

Survey says…

And now to the quick survey, with some photos to illustrate the options…

This is the current Gleeple bail. This relies on a pinch point and the sculptural curve of the wire to keep the Gleeple attached. This is a lobster claw clasp used as a bail. I’d probably get ones which are a dark grey to blend better with the black cord. This is a magnetic option. One magnet is in the ‘hat’ and the other magnet would be embedded in the Gleeple’s head. So you’d see a bit of magnet (like a bald spot!) when it’s being used as a marker since the ‘hat’ would still be on the cord around your neck.

Please leave comments below about:

  • in general, do you like having a complementary bead on the cord, so that when the Gleeple is being used as a marker, you still have a bit of my glass on the necklace?
  • would you rather have a magnetic clasp (or another lobster claw clasp) on the necklace (which means the necklace would be a set length, probably 18 inches) or is it better to keep it as an adjustable cord which fits over your head?
  • any other comments, as I’m sure there are other great options I haven’t thought of!  =)

And now, RELEASE THE POLL!

I voted for the sculptural wire, but it looks like it registered the lobster clasp instead.

We just tested the survey and it looks like it’s working properly. I bet someone else voted at the same time as you did, which made your vote appear to go into the wrong category. But thank you for emailing, as it made us double check and we did find another error…which I’ve now fixed. This is my first survey =)

    Love your work, Jen.

    I like the sculptural wire.
I like the lobster or magnetic clasp at the back instead of having something that goes over my head that is adjustable.
I like the little glass bauble so that something is still there when the gleeple is in play.

Now I just need to make up my mind about a colour!

Thanks for the feedback Lori =)
It’s just occurred to me: I hope this survey doesn’t sound like I’m soliciting orders with my questions. I’m just hoping to do some group thinking. All opinions are welcome, and non-binding *smiles*
    Thanks again =)

You folks are doing a fantastic service for so many folks out there. Richard, I have watched just about all of your Runthroughs and have enjoyed them all, even when I don’t agree with you. Jenefer, your glass Gleeples look beautiful. Good luck to both of you in all your endeavours.

I like the sculptured wire and the bead idea is great. When my Gleeple was in play the cord didn’t have enough weight and kept annoying me.

Hi guys! Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who’s done the survey, 91 votes so far, and for the comments. It’s really helpful and reassuring to see I’m pretty much on the right track, doin’ what I’m doin’.

I think it’s quite nice to have a bit of glass on the cord when the Gleeple is out playing. Like the bead is saving the Gleeple’s spot =) It’ll be a beady buddy!

So, I’d like to offer a complimentary complementary bead to anyone who already has a Gleeple, just drop me an email and remind me what color your Gleeple is, or if you want you can pop me a photo of your Gleeple and I’ll make a bead to fit its Gleepitude.

I’ll make them and should be able to get them in the post mid to late November. I’d definitely like to avoid them getting caught in Christmas postal chaos.

Right! I’m off to walk the beagles. The weather’s calmed down after a very stormy and windy few days. =)

I like the idea of the magnetic clasp – easy on, easy off. However, I would be concerned with the gleeple getting snagged or whatnot and falling off accidentally. There’s more control with the other clasps.

Love the gleeples! I do like the idea of a bead to keep the look and some weight when the gleeple is being used. I’d worry about the same as some others with the magnet catching and pulling off – I seem to catch my jewelry on things all the time. :-p Nice work!

Congratulations to the new Gleeple winners.

My wife got her very own custom Gleeple a la Jenefer Ham Glass and she loves it!

If you guys don’t have Christmas presents … well you know what to do.

I like all the clasp ideas, but the sculptural curve looks the snazziest.

As far as jokes here is one of my favorites …

“Two talking pies are in an oven. One talking pie turns to the other talking pie and says, ‘Man it is hot as hell in here.’ The second talking pie turns back to the first talking pie and says ‘ OH MY GOD! A TALKING PIE!’ “
